The Clovelly Bocce and Social Club (CB&SC)
The CB&RC is fortunate to be the home to one of Australia’s oldest active Bocce Clubs. The CB&SC is comprised of mainly Italian players who warmly welcome newcomers with open arms. Bocce has a long history in Spain and Italy and was first introduced to Australia in the 20th Century by enthusiast’s who wanted to be able to enjoy playing it in Sydney.
The CB&SC has a long and storied history. It’s origins stretch back to when it came into existence at the CB&RC in circa 1994. The CB&SC members commenced playing regular Bocce games on Thursday and Sunday mornings. These days the CBBC now only play on Thursday mornings. The CB&SC has it’s own Constitution and Management Committee, lead by a President. The CB&SC Management Committee is responsible for all planning and organizing when games are to be played as well as any administrative issues that may arise.
Unlike Lawn Bowls, each team’s bowls are the same colour or have a similar pattern on them. The small ball players try to get close to is called a “boccino or pallino”. The aim of the game is for teams to get their bowls closer to the “boccino” than the opposition teams.

The members of the CB&SC are very social group of members to say the least. The members of the CB&SC host several fun nights at the CB&RC during the year.
The Annual Lawn Bowls v Bocce Bowls is one of the standout competitions that is held at the CB&RC. Players from both Sub-Clubs are invited to play Lawn Bowls and Bocce Bowls against each other. Needless to say, this is a hilarious event and enjoyed by all. This is followed by a (late) lunch which is the perfect way to finish a fun day of Bowls.
It’s a fun and addictive game for all ages. So come and watch how it is played and hopefully you will want to give it a go.
